just pick chihuahua for the breed, unless they ask for registration numbers from AKC or UKC

  • Lyn says:

they won’t care just pick one and yes they do allow pet insurance for half breeds

  • cb says:

Yes they do allow it if you go to select quick quote (to the right of the page) select the pet type as dog then under the pet breed scroll down to the m’s and there will be one that says mixed (smal) select that one and you will be set.

You can get pet insurance no matter what breed it is (though some companies do have breed exclusions). The technicality isn’t a HUGE deal, but your dog would technically be a Mixed Breed because it is not purebred. So you can just put in Mixed or Chihuahua, it’s up to you. I ran some quotes at Trupanion and it costed the same for both.

I would also recommend checking out Trupanion. My dog is enrolled with them and I really like them. I found them to be the most straight forward and easy to understand. They cover 90% of the bill, no matter what. No benefits schedules, no claim limits.

Good luck, and glad you’re looking to insure your pup :)

Yes, you can get insurance for a mixed breed. Just list him/her as a mixed breed and list the breeds.

“trupanion” is the one I recommend.

It’s $99.00 per moth for my 8 year old maltese mix

Most websites have the option of putting in mixed breed, but I would just put in Chihuahua.

BUT I recommend actually calling them before you buy.

You want to make sure there is someone there on the other end of the phone to answer your call when you actually need them to pay out.

Also, ask your vet and see who they recommend as well.
