I am looking at getting pet insurance, 1 dog, 3 cats. I have two companies I am looking at Pets Best and ASPCA Pet Insurance. Wondered if anyone has dealt with them and which one do you like better and why?
I haven’t dealt with pet insurance at all. I had been looking into them because my puppy had some problems. But I will say this, be careful because the reason I didn’t get insurance is because whatever ailment they have before the insurance they won’t cover anything for it, once you have it.
My dog had a couple of UTI’s and I was planning on getting insurance so we could get to the bottom of what was going on, but all the ones I looked at wouldn’t cover any ailment she had before the insurance.
So if I got the insurance and she suffered another UTI they wouldn’t pay for it. So it was pointless….
But good luck.
I haven’t dealt with either. I use VPI Pet Insurance. It’s worked out pretty well for me. I’ve had them cover pretty much 1/2 of what the bill is for. Depending on how much the bill was you have a $50 deductible and they pay a portion of everything else. I’ve been reimbursed as little as $4 and as much as $208.00 on a $319.00 vet bill. So it depends.
I’ve heard Banfield insurance is only for use at their vet hospitals. VPI allows you to go to any vet of your choosing, infact the vet doesn’t even sign the form anymore they just enter the treatment and diagnosis and you attach all the bills. Turn around time is usually 30 days to pay out on a claim been with them for two years with no problems. However, any pre-existing condition will not be covered in your plan. My puppy had broken her toe before I got insurance and they exclude the toe from any future treatments thru their plan so if she breaks it again I have to pay out of pocket.
Just check out each plan and see what they will cover and how much. Also check to see if you can go to your own vet or any vet of your choosing (you might be out of town with your dog and have an incident like I did) you’ll want that flexibility.
Good luck, just read each one carefully before making a decision.
I agree with Terri. Vip pet insurance is great and they have 5 plans to chose from. We have the one that is about 30.00 a month and so far it have been a god sent!! Last vet bill was 168.00 and we got 118.45 back from the insurance!! ASAP Insurance has several plans but all the plans are not available in all states. The one one we could get in Washington was to smallest one and it did not cover anything. Good Luck
First of all, a disclaimer: I work for Embrace Pet Insurance in Cleveland, Ohio.
It’s great that you’re looking into pet insurance, it’s the right thing to do and responsible pet parents have a wide range of plans to choose from.
Before you decide which plan I recommend you visit (I am not affiliated with this site). Pet Insurance Review has gathered lots of customer testimonials for every major pet insurance plan in the US and you can see firsthand what pet parents like you say about the different plans. Some of the ratings for some companies will surprise you.
When it comes to choosing one pet insurance plan over another, there are really no absolutes. But the big “if” is this: Do you know what you are getting? Some companies do not do a good job of telling you what you’re buying and, after you make a claim, you may be in for a shock. Transparency and being upfront are critical when buying insurance because insurance is a “promise to pay” – can you trust that promise?

I deal with and have the Superior plan.
I’ve been with them for over two years with no problems.
